AWARDEE OF TECHNOLOGICAL SCIENCES PRIZE
LIN ZUNQI
Lin Zunqi is the specialist on the technical area of solid state high power laser and the area of laser interaction with matter. He was born in Beijing, China, in June, 1942. He graduated from the Radio Department, University of Science and Technology of China in 1964 and completed his postgraduated study in 1968.
He is now a professor, Ph. D. supervisor, vice chairman of the Academic Committee of Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, general engineer of National Laboratory on High Power Laser and Physics, CAS. He was elected the academician of CAS in 2003.
Professor Lin has been engaged in laser fusion research for quite a long period, specially in high power laser driver, Xray laser, and the research of laser interaction with plasmasin laser plasma corona area.
On the research and construction of SG-Ⅱ High Power Laser Facility, the recently largest laser facility for laser Fusion in China, he has creatively solved a series of scientific and technical difficulties, such as creating a novel spacialfilter technology, applied to coaxially double pass laser amplification regime; image relay technology for the whole laser system; specially new 3ω0 light source for alignment; high effective 3ω0 conversion technology; high reliable autoalignment system and et al. All these scientific and technological advances have elevated thoroughly SG-Ⅱ quality level and strongly promoted the laser driver research ability in our country.
He has given the important contribution on Precision SG-Ⅱ Project, including laser power balance, precision laser pointing, and important investigation on the side lobes of laser far field.
On the investigation of nonlinear laser plasma interaction process, Professor Lin has found several important phenomena experimentally, bringing wide effects on the related research field on the world.
Professor Lins research field is quite wide. He works often with very active and creative thinking. He has very powerful experimental ability to solve difficult problems with rigorous scientific approach. He is good at commanding his research teams to overcome key difficulties for many executive research project. He has directed 20 more postgraduated students and has, so far, published a total of 200 more scientific papers. He has received CAS Award for Natural Sciences and S&T Progress, the Award for S&T Progress of Shanghai, 2003outstanding Science and Technology Achievement Prize of CAS, and the Hu Gangfu Award in physics.
