AWARDEE OF TECHNOLOGICAL SCIENCES PRIZE
MA WEIMING
Abstract
Dr. Ma Weiming, who was born in Yangzhong, Jiangsu Province in April 1960, graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering of Naval Academy of Engineering (NAE) in 1982, and received his Master degree from NAE in 1987 and his Ph.D degree of Electrical Engineering from Tsinghua University in 1996. He is a professor and supervisor of doctoral candidate, working as director of the Research Institute of Power Electronic Technique Application of Naval University of Engineering. He was elected the academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2001.
He has devoted himself to the study of the isolated electrical power system for a long time, established and developed the basic theory of the twelve-phase generator-rectifier power supply system and solved many key technical problems such as the stability criterion, compound fault diagnosis, short-circuit protection, etc., which failed to be solved at home and abroad. The twelve-phase generator rectifier power supply system developed by him has been mass-produced and introduced widely thus to save a lot of funds for our country. Based on the principle he worked out concerning the integrated three-phase AC and twelve-phase rectified DC power system, the hybrid AC and DC marine power system has been developed. He successively took charge of 39 research projects determined by the Army, the Science and Technology Committee of National Defense and the Natural Science Foundation of China, 32 of which have passed the appraisal. Theoretical and technical research results of great importance have been achieved, such as the twelve-phase generator-rectifier power supply system and the hybrid AC and DC power system for ships. Both of them gain the international lead in the same type of systems. Besides, some research results have reached the advanced world level. Among the prizes which he won are: the first-class prize of National Award for Science and Technology Progress (in 2000), 2 third-class prizes of National Award for Invention, 2 first-class and 4 second-class prizes of Army Award for Science and Technology Progress. He has gained the patent right for 4 items concerning the state-level invention and the practical new pattern, published 2 monographs and issued 46 papers. He was awarded the title of “Young and Middle-aged State-level Experts with Outstanding Contribution", the “Practical Engineering Prize for Outstanding Truth-Seeking Youth", and the medal of “Ten National Talents Outstanding in Speciality and Technology". He is now a delegate to the Ninth National People's Congress.
