XU XIAOBAI

Abstract

Xu Xiaobai,inorganic chemist before 1975,was born in May 1927 in Suzhou City,Jiangsu Province.After graduation from Department of Chemistry,National Jiaotong University,Shanghai,she worked in Institute of Chemistry(Sinica Academia),Institute of Physical Chemistry CAS Institute of Applied Chemistry CAS,Institute of Chemistry CAS;Institue of Environmental Chemistry CAS(named as Reseaserch Center for Eco-environmental Sciences RCEES CAS from 1986)up to now as research assistant(1948-1951),research associate(1951-1978)research associate professor(1978-1982)，research professor(1982-present),as advisor of PhD students after 1986,and elected the academician of CAS in 1995.
Under the leadership of Prof.Liu Dagong(Member of CAS)at the beginning of 1950s she together with other group-mates was the first in China,developed and put into factory the novel halophosphate daylight fluorenscent lamp fluorescent material in our country.In order to enlarge the application of our precious rare earth resources,she had been involved in the studies of preparation and properties of high temperature rare earth binary compounds,such as borides,sulfides,ect,and also other compounds with specific properties for high technology uses.With the researches on preparation of uranium fluorides and also on dry treatment process of nuclear fuel,she obtained three items of Major Awards from CAS in 1978 together with other colleagues in Institute of Environmental Chemistry CAS.
After 1975,she had been specialized in Environmental Chemistry(Environmental sciences in general,Environmental analytical chemistry as basis)involved in isolation and identification of environmental carcinogens,atmospheric organic.pollutants,biomarkers and risk assessment(eco-toxicology);fate of toxic chemical substances,especially persistant org,pollutants(POPs),including endocrine disruptor.
She published 3 monographs or special issues and more than 200 paper in the related field.
